Mental Health Prescriber Application

Iowa Family Counseling is growing, and we’re looking for a mission‑driven prescriber to join our team offices! This could be an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHCP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-ARNP).

This full‑time, in‑person role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in rural mental health care while building a rewarding, stable career in a supportive outpatient environment. As rural communities across Iowa continue to face significant provider shortages, this position allows you to step into a high‑need area where your expertise truly changes lives. Our clinics serve patients from Washington, Johnson, Jefferson, Keokuk, Muscatine, and surrounding counties—communities that rely on us for accessible, high‑quality behavioral health services.

As a prescribing practitioner with Iowa Family Counseling, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment for individuals across the lifespan. You’ll work closely with therapists, primary care providers, schools, and community partners to deliver integrated, patient‑centered care.

This role is supported through a federal rural healthcare workforce initiative funded by CMS/HHS, designed to expand access to behavioral health services in underserved areas. Because of this support, the position includes recruitment incentives of up to $120,000 and requires a five‑year, full‑time, in‑person commitment to serving rural Iowa. This long‑term investment ensures continuity of care for the communities we serve and provides stability and growth for the provider joining our team.

We’re seeking a clinician with strong assessment and diagnostic skills, excellent communication, and a genuine passion for rural mental health.

Candidates must hold an Iowa ARNP license
Candidates must be new to providing services in rural areas
National certification as a PMHNP‑BC or FNP‑ARNP with behavioral health experience
DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
Required five‑year, full‑time, in‑person commitment
Previous outpatient or integrated care experience is helpful, but we welcome providers who are newer to practice and eager to learn

Mental Health Therapist Application

As a Clinical Therapist with Iowa Family Counseling, you will provide outpatient counseling services, which may be through a blend of in‑person sessions, teletherapy, and school‑based services within districts such as Highland and Mid‑Prairie. You’ll have the opportunity to tailor your caseload to your strengths and niche areas—whether you specialize in children, teens, trauma, anxiety, grief, anger management, or another focus. We welcome clinicians who bring creativity, curiosity, and a desire to help destigmatize mental health in rural communities.

We support our providers with competitive pay and benefits, and we work intentionally to reduce the overwhelm and burnout so common in our field. Our administrative team assists with referrals, paperwork, scheduling, billing, and more, allowing you to focus on what you do best—providing exceptional care.

We maintain a wide range of clinical resources, educational materials, outreach programming, and a fully stocked play therapy room. Our team culture is built on collaboration, case consultation, team bonding, shared meals, and genuine connection. We want our clinicians to feel supported, valued, and part of something meaningful.

To join our team, you must

Hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree in counseling or social work
Maintain an active, unrestricted Iowa license (PhD, PsyD, LISW/LMSW, LMFT/tLMFT, LMHC/tLMHC).
Be available to provide at least 20 direct client hours per week for full‑time
Possess strong communication skills & organization
Punctuality, and professionalism are essential

While prior private‑practice experience and post‑licensure work are preferred, we welcome clinicians who bring passion, integrity, and alignment with our mission.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing clinical counseling services
Collaborating with treatment teams when needed
Maintaining timely, accurate documentation—including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries—submitted weekly by Sunday at 9 PM via our EHR (Simple Practice)
You will attend required staff meetings and trainings and uphold the professionalism and positive reputation of Iowa Family Counseling in every interaction.
