"Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it." - Tori Amos
Meet Tori (she/her/hers)
Tori chose to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor out of a deep desire to help those in need. She began at Iowa Family Counseling as a student intern in the fall of 2023, recognizing a need for more accessible mental health care in rural Iowa. Tori has had a life-long passion for mental health awareness and understanding others, thus leading to her pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology before completing her master’s in clinical mental health counseling in 2024.
Tori has seen first-hand the positive impact mental healthcare can have on our lives and believes in meeting each client wherever they may be on their own mental health journey. Tori will walk beside you as you find your own strength, hope, and healing. While taking a person- centered therapy (PCT) approach, Tori will often integrate play therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques into her sessions. She believes in tailoring each session to meet your individual needs to reach your desired goals.
Tori has a special interest in working with those who currently experience, or have experienced, suicidal ideation and self-harming thoughts and behaviors. She whole-heartedly believes in breaking down the negative stigma surrounding these topics and will never shy away from difficult discussions. She also offers a wide variety of treatment plans for those experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, or those struggling with the stressors associated with major
life changes.
In her free time, Tori enjoys visiting with close family and friends. She finds that some of the best days are spent curled up with a good book and her two cats, Trixie and Lily.
