Tori Dennis

Counseling Student Intern

"Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it." - Tori Amos

Meet Tori

Tori Dennis is a counseling student intern in the final stages of obtaining her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Through her training, Tori recognized a need for more accessible mental health care in rural areas, thus leading her to join Iowa Family Counseling in late summer 2023.

Tori has had a life-long passion for mental health and improving the lives of those in her community. She has seen first-hand the positive impact mental health care can have on people’s lives. She is very much looking forward to meeting each person wherever they are on their mental health journey and walking alongside them as they continue.

Tori truly understands the individuality of each person, and believes in working with clients to develop wellness plans that will best fit their needs. She will often integrate aspects of Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She will always encourage clients to practice self-compassion and positive self-talk.

Tori has a special interest in working with those who currently experience, or have experienced, depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma. She also strongly believes that we all need a little help sometimes, and would be honored to work with those seeking to improve their general mental health and well-being.

In her free time, Tori most enjoys visiting with close family and friends. She also always ensures she makes time to sit down with a good novel, while snuggling with her two cats, Trixie and Lily.
