Iowa Legal Aid

Iowa Legal Aid is a nonprofit organization providing critical legal assistance to low-income and vulnerable Iowans who have nowhere else to turn.

Along with volunteer lawyers throughout the state, Iowa Legal Aid helps the legal system work for those who cannot afford help with legal issues.

Iowa Health & Human Services

The Iowa Health & Human Services website contains a wealth of information and resources. This includes information on healthcare (Medicaid), family services, financial assistance, food assistance (EBT/SNAP/WIC), mental health and disability services, disaster services, and the safe haven initiative. There are also links for applying for assistance and reporting abuse or fraud.​

Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Crisis Services

DVIP & RVAP provides services to victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Serving Cedar, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Johnson, Lee, Van Buren & Washington counties. All services free and confidential.

 

Pet Food Pantry

Cedar Valley Humane Society's Pet Food Pantry provides quality pet food for pet owners who are struggling to feed their pets due to financial difficulty. The pantry may be utilized once a month per household, no more than three times in a one year period.

Community Action of Southeast Iowa 

CA of SEIA is a regional nonprofit committed to empowering individuals and families in rural Iowa to move out of poverty and into stability. With a focus on affordable housing, emergency support, and community wellbeing, the organization provides services such as shelter, food, clothing, and housing assistance through its network of five local offices - Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Fort Madison, Columbus Junction & Keokuk.

Family Development and Self-Sufficiency Program

Helps low-income families—especially those with children—build on their strengths to become more economically and socially stable. Through regular, in-home visits with a Family Development Specialist, families set personalized goals, receive support and coaching, and gain access to community resources. It’s voluntary, tailored to individual needs, and available for families who meet income and residency criteria.

211 Iowa
​Iowa 211 is a resource that offers assistance in connecting you any help may be needed including, food, clothing, shelter resources, physical and mental health, employment supports, support for older Americans and those with disabilities, and support for children, youth, and families. 

United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties

United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties unites in purpose to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community. UWJWC is the safety net for our service providing agencies and responds when disaster strikes our most vulnerable populations.

No-Cost Cell Service

Lifeline is a federal government program offering support for eligible people without access to reliable phone service. Eligible subscribers can enroll in the program with their own compatible phone, or a phone can be provided to them at no-cost with their plan. 

United Action for Youth (UAY)

United Action for Youth is an organization in Iowa City, focused on empowering young people through education, mental health, and community engagement. They foster youth leadership and advocacy, inspiring the next generation to create positive change. Their commitment to collaboration makes them vital resource for local youth.
